The Grant allows the appointment of research and development staff to carry out research and development in mobile application and services in addition to the underlying technologies (wireless, sensor, middleware and protocols) in order to assist SMEs in the Convergence area of Wales to acquire the latest mobile technologies.

Energy and Water wastage reductions In European Social Housing

  • Project Consortium comprising of 17 partners from 11 EU Countries including 10 social housing organisations

FP7 ICT PSP Project ICE-WISH: Demonstrating through Intelligent Control (smart metering, wireless technology, cloud computing, and user-oriented display information), Energy and Water wastage reductions In European Social Housing. The project aims at conduction research and development towards the installation of 300 pilot systems in 10 different EU countries. The systems include full set of smart meters and sensor in the homes connect to an energy hub and Settop box that will display the energy usage of individual home as well as statistical and advice information to the tenants to help reducing their energy consumption by 13% by the end of the project. The data collected will be analysed at different time scales in order to understand better the influence of weather and individual circumstances on energy consumption.

The project aims at conducting research seminars to explore and develop methods to help working at home as well as independent living. Our research was concerned with providing input on the technology to be used in such solutions.

Royal Academy of Engineering Distinguished Visiting Professorships Fellowships in Communications

The grant served for hosting Prof. Alexander Dudin from Belarus who is world leading scientist in Queueing Theory. The intensive month of research served at formulating a long term research on quantification of survivability of systems and services. The outcome was an analytical model for modelling disaster scenarios with propagated failures.
